The History of Domaine Margelle Vineyards
The dream that let to Domaine Margelle began with hiking trails in France that wound through vineyards and past historic properties handed down from generation to generation. A love of wine and connection to place led Steve and Marci Taylor to explore creating their own 'old world' estate in Oregon. The foothills of the eastern Willamette Valley with its climate similar to Burgundy, reminded them of the places they had visited. They purchased an existing vineyard in 2005 that today is known as "Domaine Margelle". With the help of the Martinez family the signature stone walls were built to enclose the vineyard. These walls became the trademark for Domaine Margelle, or "Stonewall Estate". Our first estate bottling was 2007.
Martinez Family Wall
The wall surrounding the vineyard at Domaine Margelle is the creation of the José Martinez family. Many weekends were spent with the entire Martinez family gathering rocks from the property and carefully placing them to create our dry stack walls. This always included much laughter and fun. Today, Alonzo Martinez is the vineyards onsite manager and keeps a watchful eye on the family walls.
A Family Affair
The Taylor family is very much involved in the creation and growth of Domaine Margelle. Daughter Megan works with marketing and social media while Brianna can be found helping with harvest. Vineyard manager, Alonzo recently celebrated his marriage to fiancée, Alexandrina Felipé at Domaine Margelle.
Domaine Margelle has partnered with 'A to Z Wineworks' to help improve the vineyard and quality of its fruit. Over the past three years steps were taken to become LIVE certified and Salmon Safe. We are proud to say that fruit from Domaine Margelle helps create A to Z's top rated Pinot Noir according to Wine Spectator.
